Silver (XAG/USD) fell for the second straight day on Thursday, pulling back from a year-over-year high of $37.32 hit on Wednesday as traders locked in profits after the Fed's cautious policy pause. The Fed kept interest rates unchanged but suggested borrowing costs could remain at higher levels, giving the dollar some breathing space and putting slight pressure on precious metals.
As of press time, XAG/USD fell about 1.10% on the day as the metal was far from its highest level since 2012 and fell to around $36.35 in U.S. trading.
This cooling xmserving.comes after an impressive multi-week rebound, driven by structural supply tensions, rising risk-haven demand and a general weakening of the dollar. Intensified tensions between Israel and Iran have kept geopolitical risks in the process of sustained attention, prompting stable flow of funds into silver and gold. The latest decline mainly reflects a healthy profit-taking settlement and a moderate rebound in the dollar, with traders absorbing the Fed’s cautious tone and revising their recent risk appetite. Despite the pullback, silver has risen sharply this month and continues to maintain a constructive technological bias.
From a macro perspective, silver is supported by strong industrial demand, especially from solar panels and electric vehicles, which has left the global market in short supply for the fifth consecutive year. According to a recent report, a supply shortage of more than 110 million ounces is expected to occur in 2025 — one of the worst in a decade, providing solid fundamental support for prices when they pull back.
From a technical point of view, the overall trend of silver is still bullish, but shortThe momentum momentum shows signs of weakness. The daily chart highlights the ongoing bearish divergence between the price trend and the Relative Strength Index (RSI) – despite the new highs in spot silver, the RSI failed to confirm and fell below its previous high. This classic divergence usually indicates a weakening of bullish momentum. Meanwhile, MACD is still positive, but it begins to lose its upward strength, further strengthening the cautious signal sent by RSI.
The recent support range is around $35.30–35.50, consistent with the 21-day index moving average (EMA) and the recent breakout level. If it continues to be weaker below the area, a deeper pullback could be triggered, approaching the $34.50 level support – a region that has limited multiple highs over the past year and has now shifted to a key support level.
On the other hand, if buyers rebound above $36.50, the bulls may try to retest the $37.30 area, which may extend to $38.00 if momentum is strengthened again.
