WTI, stagnating below $63, is under pressure from risk of excess supply and weak fuel demand

West Texas Intermediate Crude Oil (WTI) prices fell on Wednesday, ending a two-day rise. As of writing, WTI hovered above the 21-day index moving average (EMA) $61.51, down nearly 2% from the intraday high of $63.31, trading at about $62.14 in the U.S. session.
This callback is due to the latest U.S. inventory data that triggered some alarms in the oil market. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) report showed that gasoline and diesel stocks increased more than expected, covering up good data on crude oil stocks falling by 4.3 million barrels last week. This imbalance has heightened concerns about weaker fuel demand. In addition, Saudi Arabia suggests that it may drive a significant increase in production, with OPEC+ continuing to gradually increase production, while global trade tensions add another layer of uncertainty to the demand outlook.
From a technical point of view, the daily chart shows that WTI is still limited to a clear range between $60.00 and $63.00, and neither the bull market nor the bear market showed enough confidence to make a decisive breakthrough. The $63.00 level continues to serve as a short-term resistance, with multiple attempts to limit the rise since mid-May. Meanwhile, support around $60.00 continues to attract dips, making it a key area to observe any bearish breakouts. The $65.00 mark, above the range, was a structural obstacle that once turned to resistance, and is now reinforced by the 100-day exponential moving average (EMA) 65.08.
The 21-day EMA, currently near $61.51, has flattened and is now more like a neutral fulcrum than a trend guide. Unless WTI can break through 65 decisively at the closing of the daily lineUSD, otherwise the overall outlook will remain neutral. A breakout will open the door to $68 and $70, and if the closing below $60, it may trigger bearish bets, exposing downside targets close to $58 and $55, especially with bearish macro signals.
Momentum signals are still mixed, reinforce the overall hesitation theme. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovers around 52, slightly above the neutral 50 level. While this indicates a slight bullish bias, it is not enough to indicate a trend shift individually. Meanwhile, moving average convergence/divergence (MACD) has recently shown a bullish crossover, with the MACD line just surpassing the signal line. However, the two lines remain close to the zero axis, reflecting a lack of confidence and limited follow-up. Until momentum increases, WTI may still maintain range oscillation.
